Agreement to deliver Sunmoz’s Chimuara Solar Park Project in Mozambique

30th June 2022

Solarcentury Africa, Renewable Energy Services Africa (“RESA”) and Checunda Investimentos are pleased to announce that they have signed a joint development agreement.

They will utilise their combined technical capabilities and project management expertise to deliver SunMoz’s Chimuara Solar Park project in central Mozambique.

SunMoz has secured over 250 hectares of land for the Chimuara Solar Park project close to the existing Chimuara sub-station in central Mozambique, which will provide a capacity of up to 100MWAC of solar power. Chimuara Solar Park will be delivered in phases; with the first phase supplying some 30MWAC of clean, reliable and renewable power to the Mozambique’s electricity grid.

Jason De Carteret, Head of Solarcentury Africa, said: “Solarcentury Africa has an existing partnership with RESA to develop solar park projects. We are very pleased to reinforce and expand our collaboration with RESA and their partner, Checunda Investimentos, to deliver the Chimuara project. The Chimuara Solar Park will be our second flagship renewable power plant in Mozambique, following our Balama Mine project which is currently under construction.”

“These projects reiterate Delta Gold Energy Group’s commitment to support the energy transition through delivering sustainable and cleaner energy solutions to our customers and the local communities in which we operate,” added De Carteret.

The Chief Executive Officer of RESA, Stan Chikakuda, commented “We are very pleased to have extended our relationship with Solarcentury Africa to cover the Chimuara project. A considerable amount of work has already been undertaken by ourselves and Checunda Investimentos on the project, and Solarcentury Africa brings the necessary skills and experience to take the project forward.”

The CEO of Checunda Investimentos, Alberto Leonardo Cuvelo, who also serves as Chairman of SunMoz, commented “We are excited to be part of this important renewable energy project for Mozambique and look forward to working with our international development partners, Solarcentury Africa and RESA, the local community and public sector stakeholders to deliver it.”
